Miami Fashion Week

The hottest designs in swimwear will cannonball into our backyard July 16-19 during Miami Swim Fashion Week. This ultra-posh event is the scantily clad, sun-drenched version of Paris Fashion Week. Swim fashion’s elite will host the four-day bash, filled with fashion shows, exhibits, and, of course, parties.

The Down-Low on the Schedule

Swim Fashion Week kicks off in the Funkshion Tent, where most of the shows will go down. Attending fashionistas will also grace several hotels—including the SLS and Thompson—with their presence for other events later in the day. The shows will unveil the latest swim collections of designers like Liliana Montoya, Robb & Lulu, and Tori Praver. Each day of activities concludes with an event at the luxurious Setai hotel, likely followed by uber-exclusive parties.

Invitation-Only Exclusivity

You might be thinking, “Wow, I guess bikini designers don’t skimp on fun the way they skimp on fabric! I’m totally crashing Swim Fashion Week.” Before you find out from security, we should let you know that most of the week’s events are invitation-only. But if you’re not a fashion VIP, don’t despair.

Usually, a few brands will throw a party or two where the public is more than welcome. In fact, you might get some swag out of it! One year, Swim Fashion Week threw an open pool party at the Sagamore complete with free Bobbi Brown makeup and snow cones. If you want in on the action, your best bet is to hang around the hotels where the day’s events finish and watch for a pack of tall, waifish women dressed for a night on the town.

Trends to Watch For

One of the greatest gifts of Swim Fashion Week is that we not only get to see what’s hot in swimwear but also what this summer holds in the way of beauty trends. We’re thinking that we’ll see a lot of the half-up bun, which, unlike so many runway hairstyles, actually makes sense if you plan to swim in your super-chic new bikini. Oh, and if you haven’t heard, crimping your hair is cool again! Hello, 80s! The key is to do it right—sparingly crimp a few strands on the top layer of your hair and arrange them in a low ponytail.
